Exciting News: Welcome Amy Bruce!

12/18/2024

On behalf of the Patient Choices Vermont (PCV) Board of Directors, I am pleased to announce that we have appointed Amy Bruce as PCV's new Executive Director.

The PCV Board has been planning this transition for the past year in light of the dramatic growth in demand for PCV's services. The volume, breadth, and nuances of our work clearly require this important step as we work to ensure the availability of end-of-life choice for the long-term.

A Strong Advocate for Patients and Families

Amy's career is characterized by a strong commitment to service and justice. She is a passionate advocate for medical aid in dying, bereavement support for families, and comprehensive end-of-life care.

Amy comes to us with stellar recommendations and a wealth of experience from her work as Operations Director at ResolutionCare and Director of Palliative Care Services at Hospice of Humboldt, both in California, and Director of Palliative Services, Hospice of the Chesapeake, Maryland.

Amy’s expertise in policy development, team management, strategic growth, and budget oversight will be invaluable as she leads PCV. She holds a Master of Public Policy and a Bachelor of Arts in French and Economics from the University of Michigan.

A Personal Note
As many of you know, my history with PCV goes back to the very beginning when in 2002 my dad, Dick Walters first proposed that we advocate for passage of a medical-aid-in-dying law in Vermont. Since my dad died in 2015, it has been my privilege to serve as PCV’s President and to be entrusted with such a critical mission on behalf of all Vermonters and those from out of state who seek our advice and assistance. Amy's appointment is a critical step in giving PCV the staying power it needs. I will now be stepping back onto the PCV Board, where I will focus on future legislation and other aspects of our work that require deep historical knowledge.

Please Join Us in Welcoming Amy - Your Donation will be Matched One for One!

We are pleased to announce that several members of our Board and a major donor have provided matching funds so that your contributions by year-end will be matched.

With your help, we will thrive and continue to support you, your loved ones, and all those who find comfort in knowing that medical aid in dying will be available should they choose it in their final days. The gratitude expressed by patients and families for our dedicated team continues to inspire us.

Thank you for being part of the PCV mission and community.
