Spring fundraising for PCV is well under way We wish to thank those of you who have already generously responded to our Spring fundraising drive with your financial gift. If you’ve not yet had an opportunity to lend your support, please take a moment to consider what end-of-life choice means to you. You can help ensure that Patient Choices Vermont and our team of volunteers continue to provide a very comprehensive level of service, free of charge, to all who seek our help by making your donation today. Welcome Dr. Jennifer Carlo to Patient Choices Vermont (PCV)![]() I am very pleased to introduce Patient Choices Vermont’s new Program Manager, Jennifer Carlo. Thousands of people count on PCV for accurate information about end-of-life options at a critical and sensitive time. Jen’s deep experience recruiting, training, and managing volunteers will be invaluable as she heads up our Helpline Team, facilitates the work of our Wayfinders Network, and leads our Community Education and Outreach programs. Dr. Jennifer Carlo comes to Patient Choices Vermont from the Northeast Kingdom Collaborative, a non-profit organization dedicated to building strong, vibrant communities, where she served as executive director since 2021. Jennifer has an AB in Sociology from Princeton, an MA in Education from Goddard, an MBA from Carlow, and a PhD in Leadership and Change from Antioch University. Click to learn more about Jen. New Leadership for PCV Helpline Team In one of her roles as Program Manager, Jennifer Carlo will provide the consistent leadership and guidance that is essential to our Helpline Team. Each month, these volunteers provide personal responses to dozens of requests for information and support (more than 1,000 per year). These requests come to us from patients and families across the country and around the globe, as well as from Vermont medical and hospice providers. Here is a typical example of the support people are often seeking: “My name is Sue, and my mother has ovarian cancer. While she has fought valiantly, she is now in a great deal of pain and is asking my brother and I to help her end her life. My mother lives in New York and my brother and I are in Massachusetts. This is so hard, and we heard that there may be people in Vermont that can help. Please send me any information that you can." Within 24 hours, one of our volunteers replied with compassionate, thorough and personalized guidance. We understand that accessing medical aid in dying (MAID) is a complex and highly personal process. Patient Choices Vermont provides the organizational backbone and ongoing training to our volunteers to ensure that the information we provide is accurate, up-to-date, and actionable. We have one of the most comprehensive websites on MAID in the United States where we provide a full gamut of information on each step of the process.
