About PCV

Patient Choices Vermont (PCV), founded in 2002, is a non-profit organization dedicated to end-of-life choice.  PCV worked for more than ten years to achieve enactment of the law entitled Patient Choice at End of Life (Act 39).   PCV seeks to educate Vermonters about end-of-life options and to influence policy, regulations and practice that affect the terminally ill.  PCV's mission resonates with thousands of Vermonters because our cause recognizes the importance of freedom of choice near the end of life.

Important liberties such as the choices Act 39 provides require continued vigilance.  PCV educates new legislators and sustains its legislative watch function in order to ensure that Act 39 is in place for the long term.

PCV works to ensure that all Vermonters have knowledge and practical access to the choices the Act provides.  PCV works closely with a number of organizations to bring educational programs to communities.  We work to forge relationships
among medical and care-giving institutions, utilizing the broad expertise and institutional knowledge of our board members and advisors.  PCV also works closely with the Death with Dignity National Center and Compassion & Choices, two prominent national organizations that provide valuable advice on policy development and implementation strategy.

Corporate Structure:  Patient Choices Vermont is a 501(c)(3) organization, meaning that contributions qualify as tax deductible.  The formal name of the organization is Vermont End of Life Choices, Inc.   Certain board members also maintain a 501(c)(4) organization, which can focus on lobbying efforts as needed.  The 501(c)(4) corporation is Patient Choices at End of Life - Vermont, Inc., doing business as PCV Action Network.

If you need a copy of our organization's IRS determination letter establishing our 501(c)(3) status, please contact us.

Thank You Note From a Supporter:
"
Because of your efforts, we can all be grateful and rest knowing that when we face end-of-life decisions, there are compassionate choices.  Thank you."
